Information is becoming denser, content more complex and communication channels more diverse. At the same time, there is little time to classify contexts and make decisions. Infographics make visible what often remains hidden or difficult to grasp in daily internal and external communication: Connections, weightings and structures.

The new compact course Infographics in Communication at the MAZ in Lucerne is aimed at anyone who has realized that comprehensibility today requires more than just figures or texts. Using concrete examples and their own tasks, participants learn how to analyze content, organize it visually and prepare it in an understandable way for different media - from print to digital formats.

Conscious design decisions

The course focuses on conscious design decisions: What becomes visible? What remains in the background? And how can clarity be achieved through reduction? To ensure quality and practical relevance, the course is taught by two proven lecturers from the field who are responsible for different modules: Christine Zimmermann from Hahn+Zimmermann and Christoph Schmid from Interactive Things.

Inspiration and tools

The UBS Digital Art Museum being built in Hamburg's HafenCity, which shows how tangible spaces can be created from data, streams and systems, serves as inspiration. "Zoonotic Web" by Liuhuaying Yang, which won gold at the Information is Beautiful Awards 2025, will be presented as an example of excellent data visualization.

Participants will also gain an insight into practical tools such as Flourish, which can be used to quickly translate data into interactive visualizations. The course will take place from March 24 to April 2, 2026 at the MAZ in Lucerne. The registration deadline is February 24, 2026.
