Video series: Where is Swiss journalism heading?

In the new video series «Focus on Journalism,» five media professionals discuss funding, the use of AI, and the future of reporting on issues relevant to democracy.

The FAU Studio interviewed media cracks Susan Boos, Eva Hirschi, Ralph Pöhner, Reto Vogt and Michael Marti on the central question: "Where do you see journalism and the media industry in Switzerland in five years' time?" The interviews resulted in five video episodes with controversial opinions that will be published in the coming weeks, starting with answers to the question "How should journalism be financed in the future?"

The future of a key industry

Will the Swiss media industry continue to shrink? Will revenues collapse as they have in recent years? Should the state finance critical journalism? What consequences will the use of AI have? The interviews in "Focus on Journalism" provide highly topical and controversial answers to these questions. Ultimately, it is about how important independent reporting on political and social issues will be for our society and our state. And how consumer habits are shifting in relation to the media in Switzerland - especially among the younger generations.
