Edit-a-thon grows: Somedia on board as a new partner
The edit-a-thon for greater visibility on Wikipedia is expanding its network and introducing a new focus in 2025: On May 6, the event will center on «Women in Sports.» For the first time, the event will take place not only in Zurich but also in Chur and Davos—thanks to a new partnership with Somedia.
The Edit-a-thonthe writing initiative for more gender equality on Wikipedia, is expanding its network. With Somedia as a new partner, the event is expanding to Graubünden for the first time. The media company based in Chur complements the existing partner network - including the EqualVoice initiative, ETH Zurich, the TX Group, Ringier and Wikimedia CH - and contributes a stronger regional presence. In addition to the Ringier Press House in Zurich, the Somedia media houses in Chur and the Zondacrypto Arena in Davos are new venues.
The 13th Edit-a-thon is dedicated to the Uefa Women's Euro 2025 and the topic of "Women in Sport". The aim is to address the digital underrepresentation of female athletes. After all, digital representation is crucial in a media landscape increasingly shaped by AI-supported information systems. Participants can make their own suggestions for relevant women who have not yet been included.
The writing event is aimed at both experienced Wikipedia authors and newcomers, who will be introduced to the creation of articles on site or online and supported by experts. After a Wikipedia training session at 4.30 pm, the official writing starts at 5.15 pm and lasts until 9 pm.
In addition to Somedia, other partners are strengthening the network: the PROWAH (Professional Women of African Heritage) association is contributing its expertise as a content partner. Host City Zurich is also involved as an event partner due to its sporting focus.
There will also be a premiere on an international level: Parallel to the Swiss event, an edit-a-thon will take place in Hungary for the first time, organized by Ringier Hungary as part of the EqualVoice initiative.
