Filmgerberei sends "Hype Kitchen" into its second season
The innovative cooking show «Hype Kitchen,» hosted by Noah Bachofen, kicks off its second season on Monday. The Instagram personality will now also be welcoming guests to the studio, including celebrity chef Andreas Caminada.
Together with Filmgerberei, Noah Bachofen developed a program format that mixes styles from the world of social media and brings them to television and streaming channels in a fresh way. "With 'Hype Kitchen', we are trying to shake up the genre of the classic cooking show with a mixture of cooking program, TikTok, Insta-Reels and YouTube clips and bring a breath of fresh air to television," explains Silvio Gerber, Director of Photography and Partner at Filmgerberei. "The mixed media combination, which is already familiar from YouTube, creates a dynamic, fast and varied format with lots of cuts and visual effects, which is still relatively new in linear TV."
Trends as the focus of the program
In "Hype Kitchen", Noah Bachofen wants to find out what hyped dishes from TikTok & Co. are good for. However, trends also play an important role outside the kitchen. In addition to the latest cinematic techniques, social media trends and general pop culture trends and hypes of the past decades are also incorporated into the show.
It was always important for Noah to remain as authentic as he is on his own channels. This requires little script, but a lot of research and preparation. "Part of the concept is that we always surprise each other directly on set. We bring props and input on location. The reactions are so much more authentic, but it also means being well prepared," continues DOP and director Gerber.
Courage rewarded, second season
Having the courage to create things and humor spontaneously was not a matter of course. SevenOne placed a lot of trust in the film series right from the start - and was rewarded: the format keeps the younger generation glued to the screen for longer. "We had excellent ratings on TV and on our digital platforms. On Sat.1, we achieved a strong market share of 9% in the 15-49 target group. Our content strategy is to develop new programs together with talented Swiss personalities. We are very pleased that this was particularly successful with Hype Kitchen. In the second season, the collaboration with the Filmgerberei team and Noah was once again extremely professional, inspiring and a lot of fun," says Jacqueline Sasse, Head of Content Strategy, describing the success.
New camera effects and gourmet criticism
The fresh narrative style can also be found in the creative camera work. And here, too, research counts, because no two camera effects are the same. The challenge is to find new angles: through the hole in the side of the pan with a sample scythe or rotating on the mixer. And each time made visible to the audience.
With two guests - celebrity chef Andreas Caminada and Noah's podcast partner Nico Franzoni - the show is given another factor: gourmet criticism. Overall, the second season aims to impress once again with an entertaining balance of cooking, comedy and flashbacks to the nineties.
