Swiss Post to acquire Quickmail Holding
Because Quickmail and Quickpac can no longer operate independently, Swiss Post intends to acquire the two companies. However, the Competition Commission (Weko) must still approve the purchase.
Falling mail volumes and intense competition have become a problem for the two logistics companies, which means they can no longer stand on their own, Swiss Post said Thursday. Quickmail and Quickpac had therefore actively sought buyers.
With a takeover, Swiss Post could "ensure the continuation of services for customers," the statement continues. In addition, existing synergies could be exploited and its logistics better utilized. A wholly-owned takeover of Quickmail Holding is therefore planned in the near future. However, this still has to be approved by the Weko competition commission.
In a letter, the Syndicom trade union is demanding that Swiss Post offer all 3,500 employees of Quickmail Holding a new job. The union welcomes the fact that the takeover will ensure that systemically important tasks remain the responsibility of the state-owned company. It also welcomes the disappearance of competition, which would have damaged the public service. The takeover slows down the pressure on working conditions somewhat and strengthens the basic service.
