Last but not least: About Schmidt
Helmut Schmidt turned 90. Naturally, all the newspapers wanted a story from him. But the fuss became a bit too much for him.
Former German Chancellor Helmut Schmidt celebrates his 90th birthday this December. So it's no wonder that newspapers are vying for the attention of the politician, who has almost become an icon in Germany. As co-editor of Die Zeit, Schmidt naturally gave preference to Hamburg's Bildungsbürgerblatt and did not authorize his quotes in Der Spiegel, which also wanted to do a cover story about him, until Die Zeit was able to be the first to publish a broad report about him on 11 December.
The hype surrounding his person was probably a bit too much for him in general. As Kress.de reports, Schmidt must also have been quite stubborn towards the Spiegel photographer. He gave her exactly four minutes and indicated with his fingers how much time she had left. On the cover of the issue, he is now sitting there with his index finger raised. Apparently the last minute of the photo session had begun.
