Last but not least: Nouvelle Revue Française turns 100
The Nouvelle Revue is turning 100. The legendary literary magazine published authors such as Baudelaire and Proust, but its heyday is long past.
It was published for the first time on February 1, 1909 and gradually developed into a beacon of French literature. We are talking about the nrfthe Nouvelle Revue Française. Through its fateful connection with the Gallimard publishing house, it was jointly responsible for publishing authors such as Mallarmé, Baudelaire and Proust in its early days. This was the birth of the "Editions de la Nouvelle Revue".
The heyday of the nrf in the interwar period, when it rose to become France's leading intellectual and literary organ. During this time, it gave a voice to authors such as Breton, Kafka, Musil, Cocteau and Aragon. After the Second World War, it never regained its former greatness. According to the Süddeutsche, it is now more and more like a monument. The circulation has fallen to around 1000 copies. Several retrospectives are now being published to mark the 100th anniversary. Joyeux anniversaire!
