Golden eggs for best Swiss packaging

This marks the 50th time that the best Swiss packaging designs have been honored. That’s why the nine winners received golden eggs at the Swiss Packaging Award.

For the first time, young talent won two prizes: Jalil Badaoui for "Convenience at your Fingertips" and Delia Gerber and Rilind Cikaqi for "Generation X: Shoebox".

The trophy that the winners of the Swiss Packaging Awards take home is an overdimenisonal egg - the symbol of perfect packaging. For the 50th anniversary of the award, the nine winners received gold-plated eggs.

Record participation

With 61 entries, participation in the Swiss Packaging Award was higher than ever this year: 36 different participants submitted their innovative packaging solutions in the categories of sustainability, convenience, design, marketing, technology and construction. There were several entries in the young talent category and the participation in the audience award was also very high with 17 entries.

In the six main categories, a 15-member jury of experts from the packaging industry, universities and research institutes made their decisions after two days of deliberation. In the Audience Award, participation was almost twice as high as last year, with 1944 votes cast.

Sustainability increasingly important

There were 18 entries in the sustainability category. This meant that packaging solutions aimed at reduced resource use and improved environmental friendliness were only just behind the marketing category in terms of numbers, which has held the top spot for years and fulfills a classic function of packaging. "This shows that our packaging companies are working hard to meet consumer demand for sustainable packaging solutions," says Philippe Dubois, president of the Swiss Packaging Institute (SVI). The SVI is the umbrella organization for the Swiss packaging industry. It organizes the Swiss Packaging Award.
