Disruptive Innovation - the new course at HSW Fribourg
CAREER The Fribourg School of Business (HSW-FR) is offering a new part-time CAS course in "Disruptive Innovation" from September. Participants will learn the strategic and practical tools to recognize the potential for success of disruptive innovations on the market and assess their impact on their company. How can the success of a new - possibly disruptive - product be predicted? How can a disruptive topic/product field be identified in one's own company? What should an effective strategy be in a constantly changing environment? These and many other questions will be addressed in the new Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) "Managing Disruptive Innovation", which will be offered this fall at the Freiburg University of Applied Sciences During the course, students gain extensive knowledge of the mechanisms of disruptive innovation, also thanks to the reports of experiences of and encounters with proven specialists. This in-service training offers participants the opportunity to learn and apply the knowledge and useful tools necessary to face the new challenges well prepared. In this CAS, participating entrepreneurs, executives and R&D managers develop strategic competencies as well as the indispensable mental agility to respond efficiently to disruptive innovations. Case studies from different industries such as the textile industry, the music industry as well as the agricultural sector are analyzed in order to test current theories, to sharpen the perception with regard to disruptive innovations and thus to anticipate possible market changes at an early stage.Learning with a unique, personalized method The program includes four phases: Frontal teaching, online learning, the development of a project for his own company and a study tour. Aligned to the specific needs of each participant, in combination with the acquired knowledge, the graduates of the course can immediately implement the findings in a project of their own environment. This personal project is the linchpin of this CAS. The training extends over five months. During this time, participants are individually supported by members of the faculty. An essential component of the CAS is a trip to the United States, either to San Francisco (Silicon Valley) or to Boston, two of the global hubs for technological innovation. There, students have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of this unique ecosystem and meet some of the most innovative companies in the world. They will meet prominent players and witness disruptive innovation.
