What does geo-targeting mean?
GLOSSARY Geo-targeting is often mentioned, particularly in relation to mobile advertising. But what does this actually mean? With geo-targeting, the user's IP address is used for localization. This method is used for location-based advertising and services.location-based advertising only addresses users in a desired region.location-based services (LBS) only show users of a service or smartphone app, for example, businesses, restaurants and petrol stations in the vicinity of their current location. Location-based services are becoming increasingly important, particularly due to the widespread use of smartphones, and it should be noted that the accuracy of IP-based GEO targeting in Switzerland is limited. This has to do with line construction (fiber optics) and the dial-up nodes. Intelligent use of GEO targeting (e.g. several zip codes combined) is therefore recommended.
