The campaign begins on November 26, the International Day against Violence against Women. It will run until December 9 on social networks, in the media and in public spaces, as the canton of Valais announced on Monday. The cantonal Office for Equality and Family, which launched the campaign, has opted for a direct message.

The models on the posters wear T-shirts with provocative slogans that refer to frequent domestic violence situations. For example: "I was late, so he hit me" or "Last night I didn't feel like it, but he forced me".

For affected men, there are posters with slogans such as "She controls all my actions". The campaign is aimed at both genders. The majority of victims of domestic violence are women. However, men are affected in 28 percent of reported cases.

The number of crimes related to domestic violence has steadily increased in Valais in recent years. In 2013, 715 cases were reported. In 2017, the figure was 913. The police responded 243 times in 2013 and 328 times last year. Victims can find information on the website Domestic-violence-vs.ch. (SDA/hae)
