Because of article: Telebasel takes legal action against Basler Zeitung

After the civil court of Basel-Stadt approved the provisional injunction requested by Telebasel against an article in the Basler Zeitung and an out-of-court settlement with the Basler Zeitung could not be reached in the meantime, the next step in the legal dispute between the two media now follows.

On February 22 of this year, the Basler Zeitung published an article entitled "Calls from City Hall". In it, the author made false claims that caused considerable reputational damage and material losses to the regional TV station Telebasel, as well as to members of its board of trustees and management, Telebasel wrote in a statement. "This was the tip of a two-year campaign by Blocher's newspaper against the regional TV station of northwestern Switzerland."

Among other things, the article made the claim that Telebasel was "controlled by the government", that the station had been "run down" by its management and that "the broadcasting time had been halved". The Telebasel Foundation, as the broadcaster's sponsor, did not want to accept these and other statements and therefore applied to the Civil Court of the Canton of Basel-Stadt for a superprovisional measure to delete the article online and further measures against the Basler Zeitung. The court issued a superprovisional order, which was confirmed after a hearing on March 1, 2018.

Talks with the editorial office of the Basler Zeitung with the aim of settling the conflict amicably unfortunately failed due to their insufficient offers. Therefore, the Foundation has decided to file the ordinary lawsuit with the expiration of the deadline set by the court on June 4, 2018.
