City magazine Tsüri.ch launches first civic media project in Switzerland
On June 12, 2018, Tsüri.ch’s first civic media project, «Smart Tsüri,» officially launches. Over the course of four weeks, Tsüri.ch will take a close look at the topic of «Smart City» and has set out to determine what this development specifically means for Zurich residents—and what their needs are in this regard.

According to a press release, Tsüri.ch has set itself the goal of breaking away from old forms of local journalism and redefining it. Big words, simple concept: the focus is to be placed on the exchange between the editorial team and the community and more depth is to be generated on socially relevant topics. In other words, it's all about exchange, participation, debate, experiments and experiences. Tsüri.ch calls this "civic media" because something can be achieved with the community and society.
The "Smart Tsüri" project aims to do just that: it addresses the topic of "Smart City" and makes it accessible to the community. Politicians and businesses are hoping for a higher quality of life thanks to the efficient use of resources and the analysis of vast amounts of personal data. Until now, the population, which inevitably has to play a part in this development, has not been included in the debate about the future. The "Smart Tsüri" project aims to alleviate this shortcoming through various focal points, events and editorial contributions.
The series of events is dedicated to the topics of data protection, inclusivity and political participation. The starting signal is the Pitch Night: Visions of a Smart City on June 12, 2018, 7 p.m. at Kosmos, where the topic will be covered by a wide range of relevant players from the "Smart City" sector. The closing event on July 12, 2018, 7 p.m. at the Aussersihl district center (Bäckeranlage) will collect demands and expectations of city residents and project participants from the administration, politics, the private sector and society. All details on the event can be found in the program flyer. Contributions on the topic will be published at this link.
There will be a final report for the "Smart Tsüri" project, in which the most important findings of the project will be collected.
