All that glitters is not gold

Together with Ligue 2 player Ibrahim Cissé, WWF France is campaigning against a controversial gold mining project. The result is an impressive commercial.

Under the creative direction of the We Are Social agency, the French WWF is mobilizing against the Montagne d'or mining project in French Guiana. This is one of the largest gold mines in the world. A gold reserve of almost 170 tons (!) of gold is believed to exist in this area.

The catch: in order to obtain this gold, unique nature must be destroyed. 57,000 tons of explosives, 46.5 tons of hydrocyanic acid, 195 million liters of petrol and the clearing of over 1500 hectares of rainforest are the incredible cost of extracting the coveted precious metal. In other words: over 2100 football pitches of virgin forest have to be cleared to get the gold. Thousands of endangered animal species are at stake.

It is therefore all the more pleasing that the WWF and footballer Ibrahim Cissé have joined forces to mobilize against the sell-out of nature. With an atmospherically impressive, depressing commercial. (hae)
