Tamedia discontinues online evening edition Le Matin du Soir

The French-Swiss online newspaper Le Matin du Soir is being shut down after just under a year and a half. The final issue will be published as early as next week. The Tamedia publication failed to attract enough readers.

"It didn't work," said Grégoire Nappey, editor-in-chief of the French-speaking Swiss newspaper Le Matin, at the request of the SDA news agency. No more than 800 subscribers could have been gained. The Matin du Soir thus fell far short of expectations of 8,000 to 9,000 subscribers. The online edition was available every evening from 5 pm. "It was an attempt. Sometimes attempts fail. But I don't regret having done it," said Nappey.

As part of the discontinuation of the online magazine, one position will be cut. However, there will be no redundancies. The future of the French-speaking Swiss newspaper Le Matin remains open. Its print edition is to be discontinued in the medium term. No date has yet been set for this. Editor-in-chief Grégoire Nappey gave no details about the future of the newspaper on Wednesday. "There is nothing new at the moment," he said. (SDA)
