According to Tamedia referendum poll, 60 percent reject the No Billag initiative

With about two weeks to go before the vote, opponents of the No-Billag initiative continue to hold a clear lead: According to the third round of Tamedia’s referendum poll, 60 percent say “No” to the initiative, while 39 percent say “Yes.”.

The Swiss media group Tamedia conducted the third cross-title survey on its news portals in the run-up to the federal vote on March 4, 2018. 17,164 people from all over Switzerland took part in the survey online on February 15. The margin of error is 1.1 percentage points.

Supporters of the initiative appear on the ground

In the battle to abolish reception fees, the opinions seem to be made: A clear majority of 60 percent continues to reject the No Billag initiative. According to the latest Tamedia poll, 39 percent of voters intend to approve the initiative. 1 percent of respondents gave no indication of their voting intentions. This means that the proponents have not succeeded in gaining ground since the last poll two weeks ago.

The only majority for the bill is among SVP voters (70 percent yes). The supporters of all the other major parties reject the initiative, most clearly the SP voters with 82 percent No. But 64 percent of FDP voters are also against No Billag.

18- to 34-year-olds also clearly reject No Billag

The survey also shows that the proposal is not a battle between young and old: all age groups reject the abolition of reception fees - including 18 to 34 year-olds. Of these, 60 percent are currently planning to vote no in the ballot box. The rejection is even stronger only among the over-65s (68 percent no).

There are differences between the sexes: While only just over one in three women is in favor of the No Billag initiative, 43 percent of men are. According to the survey, support is also lower in French-speaking Switzerland (36 percent in favor) than in German-speaking Switzerland (41 percent in favor). (pd/hae)
