The youngest game designers come from Chur
Last summer, three young people began their apprenticeships at 08Eins. After a little over half a year, they are presenting their first joint project, «Tower Birds»—a smartphone game from Graubünden for the whole world.
Tower Birds is the second game app that 08Eins has launched on the market. The difference to the first app: "Tower Birds" was created entirely by apprentices in their first year of training. 08Eins is very happy with the apprentices and the app.
The Chur-based agency places great emphasis on the training and further education of its employees. The three first-year apprentices - a software developer, an interactive media designer and a graphic designer - were given the task of developing a joint product at the start of their apprenticeship. For Marc Cadalbert, Process Engineer and Partner at 08Eins, the three more than fulfilled their task: "After two months, we were presented with the Tower Birds prototype. From then on, things took off and the app was met with enthusiasm."
Games as a dialog channel
08Eins develops software solutions and creates brand values. Cadalbert explains how a smartphone game fits into this combination: "We combine technology with identity. If it fits the defined dialog strategy, a game can also serve as a dialog platform. The gamer's interaction can create completely new experiences. Emotions, learning effects and exchanges within the community are conveyed more easily, more quickly and in a more targeted manner. The typical game reward system with level advancements or playable upgrades can also help to motivate and encourage employees."
Avoiding the Chur landmark
Tower Birds is a classic arcade game. Essentially, the aim is to steer a bird through the City West Towers, the home base of 08Eins. The more successful you are, the more birds you can unlock. Each bird has its own short bio, different abilities and flight characteristics. To date, the game has been downloaded around 300 times. The three developers are now receiving suggestions for new bird personalities from fans and players all over the world. Tower Birds is available for Android and iOS.
