The new medium "Die Ostschweiz" will be published as of April 2018
Die Ostschweiz will launch in April 2018. The new publication aims to help preserve the diversity of Eastern Switzerland’s media landscape. Plans include an online newspaper as the main edition, as well as regular print editions for various readerships.

Publisher from Eastern Switzerland is Ostschweizer Medien GmbH, based in St. Gallen. Preliminary work on launching the new medium began more than a year ago, according to the statement. Since then, a lot has happened on the media market in eastern Switzerland. From the point of view of the operators, the cooperation of media houses from different regions will be of Eastern Switzerland mean that content from one's own region will have an increasingly difficult time. The new medium should ensure that eastern Switzerland gets the attention it deserves.
Geographically, the new newspaper will cover the cantons of St. Gallen, Thurgau, Appenzell Ausserrhoden and Appenzell Innerrhoden, and thematically the areas of politics, business, culture, sports and society. The focus is not on daily events, but on background information and in-depth coverage of topics. The editorial team is supported by freelance journalists, photographers and filmmakers. Their work is supplemented by columns, contributions from guest authors and topic dossiers. Services such as the weather in eastern Switzerland and interactive elements round off the offering.
The foundation of Eastern Switzerland forms the online newspaper from April 2018 at Dieostschweiz.ch. Printed editions on specific topics and events are also published on a selective basis. In the form of micro-newspapers, a clearly defined target audience will receive a specific issue. A regular print publication for the whole of eastern Switzerland is a conceivable long-term goal.
The financial sponsors of the new medium include various personalities from eastern Switzerland. In order to secure the operation in the long term, the search for further investors is currently underway.
