Bronze for Jung von Matt/Limmat - no Swiss Epica Gold 2017
This year's Epica judging has come to a close in Berlin—Jung von Matt/Limmat has secured its ninth Swiss award.

The "SoundBook App" for Nordsüd Verlag thus wins another international award. It won bronze - in the highly competitive "Product Design" category.
Gold goes to JWT London for the "Gravity Light" - a development commissioned by Shell. The lamp can be powered by gravity: A bag is filled with stones and pulled up. As it slowly moves towards the ground, it generates electricity for the lamp and illuminates it. No battery, no power socket, no petrol - a real relief for many areas of the world. Incidentally, this is not just an award idea or an alibi prototype: the lamp, which took several years to develop, is now being used as standard Sold and in poorer areas through a Foundation distributed.
As the Swiss agencies did not win gold this year, they were also not in the running for the Grand Prix, which were decided on Wednesday under the "patronage" of Spencer Baim, Chief Strategic Officer of Vice Media. In contrast to the prevailing critical attitude in the awards world towards the often dominant "do-gooder" campaigns, Baum is convinced that it cannot be "social" enough: "If brands take on the role of the media, they must also make a contribution to a better world," he says.

The Grand Prix winners will not be announced until Thursday evening during the awards show. (hae)
