The eight-part documentary series "The Blue Planet" about the world's oceans was released in 2001 and set new standards in terms of camera technology and underwater footage, and not just according to critics. The first broadcast on BBC One reached over 12 million people, and the market share in the UK was over 30 percent for most episodes. Among other things, the series showed creatures that had never been filmed before.

In February 2017, BBC announced the sequel "Blue Planet II". The trailer released on Tuesday has almost half a million views on YouTube after just a few hours. It shows: The makers did everything they could to surpass the breathtaking first part once again. With innovative film techniques, sensational shots and - also not entirely without reason - a soundtrack collaboration between film music legend Hans Zimmer and the band Radiohead. (hae)
