Job miracle at Digitec Galaxus: 300 new jobs in 2017
Switzerland's largest online department store is creating hundreds of new jobs. Between January and September, Digitec Galaxus hired 300 new employees, the company confirmed to Handelszeitung.
At the beginning of the year, the Migros subsidiary employed 828 people. The reason for this is the strong growth," says company spokesman Alex Hämmerli.
One fifth of the new employees have found a job in Wohlen. "In the course of the conversion and expansion of our central warehouse in Wohlen, we have created sixty new jobs," says the company spokesman. Around 300 people now work in Wohlen.
The online department store has also expanded its IT department. "We now have around a hundred developers for our two online stores," says Hämmerli. Digitec Galaxus has over 700,000 products for sale online. By the end of the year, it should already be more than one million.
Behind the rapid expansion of the product range is a slight modification of the strategy. A year ago, Digitec Galaxus launched its "dealer platform". Pet expert Qualipet, furniture specialists Ikarus, Beliani and Kare, and watch and jewelry retailers Helen Kirchhofer and Rhomberg are already part of the program, which connects a retailer directly with customers via Galaxus.
