Bertelsmann closes half-year with plus thanks to digital business
Thanks to its digital businesses, the German Bertelsmann Group closed the first half of 2017 with an increase in revenue and profit.

Sales rose by 2.1 percent year-on-year to 8.1 billion euros and profits climbed by 4.1 percent to 502 million euros. This was announced by the Group with almost 120,000 employees worldwide on Thursday in Gütersloh. For the first time, the share of digital business in the TV, magazines, music, services and education divisions rose to a share of more than 30 percent of total sales. According to the statement, there was a 9 percent increase here to 2.7 billion euros.
In addition to RTL Group, the group includes the service provider Arvato, the book division Penguin Random House, the Hamburg-based magazine publisher Gruner + Jahr, the printing division Printing Group, BMG for music and music rights, and an education and investment division. The company is owned by foundations - first and foremost the Bertelsmann Foundation. The Mohn family holds the remaining shares of just under 20 percent. (SDA)
