Reorganization of AZ production leads to 4.5 job cuts

The AZ Nordwestschweiz newspaper group is reorganizing its newspaper production processes. This will lead to a reduction of 4.5 jobs in the production department in Aarau, the media company announced on Monday afternoon. Five employees are affected by the layoffs. The reorganization, which will lead to cost reductions, is a reaction to declining advertising revenues, AZ Medien explains.

In a statement, the Syndicom trade union appeals to the employer's duty of care - especially towards long-serving employees and those over 55 years of age. It calls on AZ Medien to work out career prospects with all those affected. In addition, funds should be made available to financially cushion the unavoidable measures.

Furthermore, Syndicom reminds that it is time to concretize direct media support in Switzerland as well, if companies that are important for democracy, such as AZ Medien, which are positioned without excessive profit-seeking, get into economic distress over a longer period of time. (hae/pd)
