Last but not least: toilet paper vs. safety

A calculation by messaging specialist Retarus reveals something unbelievable: Companies spend more on toilet paper than on email security.

An employee uses an average of 24 rolls per year with a total value of 37.50 euros. If half of the total requirement is used during working hours, costs of 18.75 euros per year or 1.50 euros per month are incurred. Managed services for email security, on the other hand, only cost between one and a maximum of 1.30 euros per month without archiving, Retarus spokesperson Peter Kopfmann told Pressetext. But despite this fact, many companies still have some catching up to do when it comes to Internet security. Although over 95 percent of emails usually contain unwanted advertising or malicious code, ten percent of companies still do not use solutions to protect themselves against spam and malware. In addition to the security risk, many companies are also unaware of the impact of advertising emails on everyday working life, says Kopfmann. Unsolicited emails often act as a "brake on production". So, dear bosses: invest in your employees' email security - or is their supply of toilet paper really worth more to you?
