New Federal Structure for the Regional Newspapers of the NZZ Media Group
The St. Galler Tagblatt and the Luzerner Zeitung, along with their partner newspapers, are transitioning to a two-division structure. The new model is intended to streamline the printing process and consolidate editorial coverage.

On Tuesday, July 4, the St. Galler Tagblatt, the Luzerner Zeitung and their respective regional editions will appear in a two-volume structure for the first time. The St. Galler Tagblatt previously comprised three federations, the Luzerner Zeitung four. Thanks to the new bundle structure, the regional newspapers of the NZZ media group can be printed more efficiently, according to a statement. The departments will be rearranged. "The printing processes in the background do not affect the reader. The new newspaper architecture gives more weight to the local section because it is placed more prominently in the second bundle," explains Pascal Hollenstein, Head of Journalism at NZZ Regional Media.
The uniform federal structure also facilitates cooperation between newspapers in central and eastern Switzerland. "Both sides benefit from this. The new newspaper architecture makes it possible for the culture, society, knowledge and lifestyle sections to be strengthened in central Switzerland. Conversely, eastern Switzerland will benefit from an even better business section. And above all, local and regional reporting will gain prominence and weight," says Hollenstein.
