A new look for the Kunsthaus and Photoforum Pasquart
The Biel-based agency Erdmannpeisker has developed a new corporate design for Museum Pasquart.
The Pasquart is a permanent fixture in the Swiss museum landscape. Every year, its Kunsthaus presents eight to ten exhibitions of well-known contemporary artists from Switzerland and abroad, thus managing to maintain its place in the tight Swiss museum market. With eight exhibitions per year, Photoforum also offers a high density of current photography from Switzerland and abroad, making it one of the leading addresses in Switzerland.
The same building houses other institutions such as the Foundation Kunsthaus-Sammlung Pasquart, the Kunstverein Biel, the Filmpodium Biel and the espace libre. Since the common type logo and appearance that had been in place since 1990 was getting on in years and did not communicate Pasquart as a whole sufficiently or excitingly, a new appearance was desired.
In 2016, discussions were held with 18 studios and agencies throughout Switzerland for the new image, and five of them were invited to present a basic concept for the new image. Erdmannpeisker was able to win this competition with a striking corporate design.
Logo
The logo takes the architecture of the two different buildings from different eras, known for years, and develops from it the design principle of "polarity and interface", where different contents meet and rub against each other.
Corporate Design
The design principle is applied in the typography, where grotesque meets serif fonts, or in the layout, where image containers are used to create spaces that partially stage the break without overlaying the artwork. The CD is deliberately kept open in order to allow sufficient space for varied and exciting communication in the face of the high exhibition density. Whereas in the Kunsthaus the accent colors of the communication are discreetly coordinated with the art, the three primary colors RGB dominate in the presentation of the Photoforum. Here, too, a subtle break in the appearance of the two institutions was deliberately sought.
