"Inner life of an angry citizen" is cartoon of the year
Visitors to the «Gezeichnet» exhibition have cast their votes: The 2016 Audience Choice Award goes to the caricature «The Inner Life of an Angry Citizen» by Karma, alias Marco Ratschiller.
The "Wutbürger" article appeared in the October issue of Nebelspalter. More than 200 caricatures by 45 Swiss press illustrators were on display for visitors to choose from at the annual review exhibition "Gezeichnet 2016" at the Museum für Kommunikation Bern.
In second place, visitors voted for the article "Flora Dimitri" by Langnau cartoonist Carlo Schneider, published in the September issue of Nebelspalter. Third place went to the work "Burkenpflanze" by Ruedi Widmer from Winterthur, which first appeared in the Tages-Anzeiger of August 20.
The winner garnered 6.2 percent of the votes cast, followed by 3.6 percent for the runner-up and 3.5 percent for third place. Past winners include Patrick Chappatte, Felix Schaad and Silvan Wegmann.
The prize money offered by Nebelspalter' for the 1st place will be donated by this year's winner to the organization "Cartoonists Right Network International" (CRNI). This organization supports threatened and persecuted cartoonists, currently especially in Turkey.
The exhibition "Gezeichnet" was launched in 2008 and made a guest appearance at the Museum für Kommunikation Bern in this edition from December 15, 2016 to January 29, 2017. The "Gezeichnet 2016" edition received a large national media response and, with 4630 admissions, was well above expectations, as the remaining exhibition areas of the museum are currently closed for renovations and will remain so until the summer.
The 10th edition of "Drawn" will be held again in December 2017 at the Museum of Communication. (pd)
