Luzerner Zeitung takes over Beiuns.ch

The Luzerner Zeitung is acquiring the online platform Beiuns.ch from its private founders and investors. On the website, people from cities in German-speaking Switzerland post free articles, photos, and videos about their neighborhoods, events, or club activities.

The digital product is well anchored locally and complements the existing digital offerings of the regional media of the NZZ Media Group, the Luzerner Zeitung announced on Wednesday. The new owner did not provide any details on the purchase price.

Most recently, the online platform no longer employed any staff. It is not yet known how and where beiUns.ch will be integrated into the NZZ Media Group. Reach and user numbers are to be increased.

The Beiuns.ch platform was founded at the end of 2011 as a start-up by four private investors. The former Lucerne CVP politician and current director of the health insurer association Curafutura, Pius Zängerle, Lucerne media entrepreneur Bruno Affentranger, Lucerne IT security expert Carlos Rieder and St. Gallen IT entrepreneur Bruno Grob were involved. The online platform relies on local reporters to cover events for free. Registered users independently publish texts, pictures and videos about happenings, cultural events or club events. Several times, contributions had also appeared in a printed edition. (SDA)
