Only Zurich is on Apple Pay
Apple Pay is used primarily by residents of Zurich. This is shown by Bonuscard's «Mobile Payment Barometer.».

The figures are based on an analysis of customer data from Bonuscard - one of three Swiss companies offering Apple Pay-compatible credit cards. The customers of Swissbankers and Cornèrcard are therefore not included in the evaluation. The major Swiss banks do not support Apple Pay for the time being. This is because their own joint mobile payment solution Twint is just a few months away from launch. This is intended to create strong Swiss competition to Apple's payment solution.
The evaluation shows: More than half (55 percent) of all transactions through Apple Pay take place in the Zurich economic area. 12 percent in Central Switzerland, followed by Northwestern Switzerland (9 percent), Central Switzerland (9 percent) and Eastern Switzerland (8 percent).

94 percent of all Swiss Apple Pay transactions are carried out in German-speaking Switzerland. In French-speaking Switzerland as a whole, the figure is just 5 percent, and in Ticino Apple Pay can even be described as virtually non-existent at one percent.
Mobile payment seems to appeal more to men for the time being. 67 percent of cardholders who use mobile payment are male - in stark contrast to traditional card use, where the proportions are balanced. In addition, a full 90 percent of mobile payment transactions have so far been made by men. Most of them are between 30 and 50 years old. The oldest mobile payment user is over 80 years old. Most payments range between ten and 50 francs. The highest amount paid through Apple Pay so far is 3699 francs.

Mobile payment through Apple Pay is used most frequently in grocery stores (65 percent). Just under a quarter of all transactions take place in restaurants. 6 percent at gas stations and 4 percent at department stores. Only 2 percent of payments took place on public transportation.

The number of customers using Apple Pay via Bonuscard is "several thousand," according to Bonuscard. And the trend is rising: there is an average of 14 percent more registrations per week. (hae)
