Google integrates references to fact checks
Google wants to take action against false reports and inaccurate claims on the Internet with a new function.
If fact checks are available on certain topics, Google News users will in future be shown the corresponding links for selected news items. The "Fact Check" notice will initially be introduced in the USA and the UK, as the company announced.
According to Google, it only links to fact checks that meet the "generally accepted criteria". The new function should also help to expose the false reports that are rampant on social media. Fact checks are currently playing an important role in the US election campaign. Republican US presidential candidate Donald Trump in particular has been repeatedly accused of making false statements. (SDA)
