In May 2015, the NZZ launched the youth supplement "NZZ Toolbox" and thus for the first time a journalistic format specifically tailored to the needs of young people. "NZZ Toolbox" was previously included four times a year in the Saturday edition of the "Neue Zürcher Zeitung". After a good year, the NZZ is taking stock. "In order to make the NZZ brand known to young people, we need to address this target group more than four times a year and more directly," explains Steven Neubauer, Managing Director of NZZ Medien. The last issue of the youth supplement will therefore be published on September 24, 2016.

The experience with "NZZ Toolbox" had shown that young people are interested in quality journalism. The willingness of young, talented writers to work on a journalistic project was great. In the future, the NZZ wants to make better use of this potential and approach young people directly through cooperation projects with schools. Pilot projects are already underway at individual high schools. For example, NZZ accompanies schools as a partner in media weeks, supports students in their school newspaper projects, and makes newspapers available to schools for classroom use. Based on these experiences, the NZZ will adapt and supplement the various formats and eventually roll them out to more schools.
