Somedia increases sales and profit

Somedia increased sales to CHF 133 million or by three percent in 2015. Profit rose from CHF 3.2 million to CHF 4.5 million.

The experience with the media house, which has now been in operation for more than a year, is good, according to the statement. The workflows have settled in very well and the employees are satisfied with the new workplaces, writes the Chur-based media house, which also includes Werbewoche. The cross-media orientation of the editorial offices with the Südostschweiz media family is constantly being optimized. In the area of advertising sales and media services, too, new cross-media projects and products are being realized or are being implemented in the new media house.

A significant reduction in costs is attributable, among other things, to marked savings in production costs. The number of employees decreased by 22 from 891 to 869.

In the core business (subscriptions, advertising, print sales), revenues were down. Somedia therefore launched projects in the digital area, which generated new revenues. Of Somedia's ten companies, the printing company posted a negative annual result. According to the statement, this is also due to the unfavorable currency situation since January 2015. As already announced, Somedia Production will take over print production and finishing at Comprinta in Schwerzenbach at the beginning of next year (Werbewoche.ch reported). This should significantly improve the cost situation. Somedia has acquired a stake in Comprinta for this purpose and will take a seat on the Board of Directors.
