NZZ: Vienna and Zurich work more closely together
The NZZ Media Group is restructuring its Austrian digital product, NZZ.at. Going forward, the technology, marketing, and international content teams will be based in Switzerland. Nine employees in Austria will be laid off.
The NZZ Media Group is increasingly leveraging synergies with its Austrian digital product NZZ.at. The focus is on integrating NZZ.at into the technical infrastructure and into the parent company's new data-driven marketing systems and processes.
Vienna and Zurich will also work more closely together editorially. In the future, international topics will be covered by the NZZ editorial team in Zurich with its worldwide network of correspondents, while the editorial team in Vienna will concentrate even more on those Austrian topics relating to politics, business and society which, according to studies of user behavior, attract particularly great interest.
Nine redundancies
Due to closer ties between Zurich and Vienna in the areas of technology, marketing and editorial, nine NZZ.at employees will leave the company by September, the company announced in a statement Tuesday. "We are not terminating any of these employment relationships in the short term," it said. NZZ Media Group is taking its responsibility as an employer seriously and is supporting colleagues in this change process," said Anita Zielina, editor-in-chief of New Products at NZZ. Michael Fleischhacker will remain Editor-in-Chief of NZZ.at.
NZZ.at has established itself well as a liberal voice in the Austrian media market within its first year of existence, it continues. This is demonstrated, for example, by the close interaction with several thousand subscribers and the regularly booked-out club evenings. CEO Veit Dengler emphasizes the long-term commitment of the NZZ Media Group in Austria: "The investment in Austria is part of our product and internationalization strategy. Austria is and remains an important market for NZZ. With this new setup, we are securing the future of NZZ.at."
