Switzerland Tourism wants to inspire Chinese for winter sports

Switzerland Tourism hopes to save the current winter season with «a strong finish.» An advertising campaign is aimed, among other things, at attracting Chinese winter sports enthusiasts to Switzerland. The first signs of success are already visible.

"December and January were two bad months for Switzerland's winter sports resorts and mountain railroads," said Jürg Schmid, Director of Switzerland Tourism, in an interview with Zentralschweiz am Sonntag. Thanks to the early Easter, however, there is a good chance of a good final spurt. Mountain tourism has a good future, but it is going through a difficult time at the moment, Schmid continued. "There are a few regions in the mountains that are benefiting from the insane growth from Asia." One example of this is Engelberg/Titlis thanks to its good location in relation to Zurich Airport. 96 percent of all other Alpine resorts are not yet benefiting from the growth from Asia. According to Schmid, Switzerland Tourism wants to bring the Swiss winter to the Chinese sales markets. He is convinced that there will be a steady increase in Chinese winter sports enthusiasts in Switzerland in the coming years. Switzerland is already experiencing an initial increase. "The Chinese will not replace the Europeans, but there will be a nice little growth," Schmid noted. However, an invasion of Chinese guests is not to be expected. According to Schmid, only individual tourism is being promoted in winter tourism. (SDA)
