Swiss Media Forum: Somm new on the Board of Directors
There is a change on the Swiss Media Forum’s board of directors: Markus Somm, publisher and editor-in-chief of the *Basler Zeitung*, is replacing Verena Vonarburg, who is stepping down from the board following her move from the Swiss Media Association to Ringier.
The Board of Directors of the organization, which is holding the new "Swiss Media Forum - the Swiss Media Congress" for the first time on 22/23 September 2016, therefore consists of the following five people:
- Andreas Binder, Attorney-at-Law, Professor at the University of St. Gallen (Chairman)
- Hanspeter Lebrument, President of the Swiss Media Association
- Patrik Müller, Founder Swiss Media Forum, Editor-in-Chief Schweiz am Sonntag
- Markus Somm, Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Basler Zeitung
- Marc Walder, CEO Ringier
According to the press release, Markus Somm is a committed media professional who will be helping to shape the forum. Somm studied general history, political science and economic history in Munich, Bielefeld and Zurich. He graduated from the Harvard Kennedy School (Master in Public Administration). He entered journalism in 1995 as a trainee at the Tages-Anzeiger, where he was later editor for Switzerland and the Swiss parliament. From 2003 to 2010, he was deputy editor-in-chief of Weltwoche. Somm is the author of several books (including "Marignano. Die Geschichte einer Niederlage").
