Rod: "Love Life" campaign wave for primo infection
Anyone who has to stay in bed after having unprotected sex should talk to their doctor about whether an HIV test is recommended. Rod continues to lead the «Love Life» campaign on behalf of the FOPH.
This is because flu-like symptoms often occur in the first few weeks after infection with HIV. During this phase, the so-called primary infection, HIV-infected persons are much more contagious than later. In addition, immediate therapy can have a positive effect on the course of the disease. With a new TV spot, posters and online measures, the FOPH is drawing attention to the topic of HIV primary infection. The following applies: The earlier a primary infection is discovered, the more likely it is that further infections can be prevented. When visiting a doctor, it is therefore essential to point out the possible connection with unprotected sexual intercourse. In this way, an HIV test can be performed that detects an infection even if there are no antibodies in the blood yet. But it is also of great benefit to the newly infected person himself if his HIV infection is detected early. This is because immediate antiretroviral therapy can help to ensure that the HIV infection does less damage to the body and that important immune functions are preserved in the long term.
To draw attention to the issue of primary infection, the FOPH is launching a wave of "Love Life" campaigns specifically tailored to this topic. The subjects of the current campaign highlight the connection between unprotected sex and flu-like symptoms. Take a look under the covers.
