26 percent more paid NZZ digital subscriptions
The number of digital subscriptions to the NZZ and the NZZ am Sonntag has risen by 26 percent to 21,000. Overall, the paid circulation of NZZ publications remains stable, as shown by WEMF in its circulation audit published on Thursday.
In total, Wemf AG für Werbemedienforschung reports 20'994 digital subscriptions sold, of which 12'685 are attributable to the Neue Zürcher Zeitung and 8309 to the NZZ am Sonntag. The 26 percent increase in replica circulation compensated for the decline in print: total paid circulation remained stable at 98'868 (-1.7 percent) for the Neue Zürcher Zeitung and 116'583 (-1.9 percent) for the NZZ am Sonntag.
Total circulation declined slightly. This is due to the lower number of free subscriptions. "We have deliberately reduced the scattering loss due to the free subscriptions and thus optimized our circulation. You can see this in the pleasing development of the readership figures," explains Steven Neubauer, Managing Director of NZZ. Last week, Wemf reported 274'000 readers for the Neue Zürcher Zeitung. That is around 14'000 more than in the previous year. At the NZZ am Sonntag, the number of readers rose year-on-year by 2000 to 423'000 readers.
