Jungfrau Zeitung expands journalism
The Jungfrau Zeitung is creating three new departments. Yves Brechbühler will take over as editor-in-chief, Patrick Schmed will become head of Agenda/Market, and the appointment of the news desk manager will take effect at the beginning of the year.
The multimedia platform based in Interlaken is expanding its journalism. On the one hand, the Gossweiler newspaper is introducing a new climate section because the Bernese Oberland is particularly affected by climate change. The keywords here are permafrost, glacier retreat, artificial snow, debris flows and flooding. On the other hand, the traditional politics, business, culture and sport sections will be expanded, the newsdesk will be doubled in terms of time and staff, and the service-oriented Agenda and Marketplace sections will be given independent management and, from next year, their own apps and a separate form in print as the Jungfrau Zeitung's weekly magazine.

The 28-year-old Yves Brechbühler will be the new head of the editorial team from October 1. The journalist from Zofingen studied philosophy and German language and literature at the University of Bern. As editor of the Jungfrau Zeitung, Brechbühler introduced a new type of live reporting of major events. His favorite department is politics, where he recently caused a stir with a series of interviews with the four candidates for the Council of States from the Bernese Oberland. He masters the multimedia approach of the Jungfrau Zeitung, which has one of the most integrated editorial teams in Switzerland. Brechbühler is a passionate mountaineer, writes guest articles in the SAC magazine Die Alpen and the Zurich Tages-Anzeiger and has climbed several north faces in the Bernese Oberland, including the Eiger. The new editorial director is also known for his insightful reports. At the height of winter, he accompanied Hasliberg mountain farmer Fritz Kehrli on his arduous journey with his cows via Gental to Nessental on the Susten Pass.
The new Head of Agenda and Marketplace from October 1 will be 44-year-old Patrick Schmed. Born in Disentis in the canton of Graubünden, he is a trained tourism specialist and advertising manager. He has over 20 years of experience in marketing in various sectors. Most recently, he was Head of Marketing at the Gantrisch Nature Park for five years. Before that, he spent eight years as editorial director of the Bernmobil customer magazine, which has a circulation of over 100,000 copies. He has previously worked in the Bernese Oberland. Schmed started his career in marketing at PostBus Tourism in Interlaken, where he set up Postcar, the excursion offer from PostBus Switzerland. He was also Head of Marketing at Radio Grischa in Chur. Schmed is working with clients at Gossweiler Media to expand the cross-media area of native advertising. He has already published a highly acclaimed cultural and historical series about the important castles around Lake Thun and a portrait of the Alpenblick gourmet restaurant in Wilderswil, which is known throughout Switzerland.
