Sales targets for NZZ History already exceeded
The first issue of NZZ Geschichte, the history magazine of the Neue Zürcher Zeitung, will be published on Thursday. Even before the issue is released, the media company is pleased with the demand. It has received a large number of subscription orders.
The sales targets were exceeded by far, the NZZ announced on Wednesday. The full-year target for 2015 has already almost been achieved. However, the publisher will not disclose any specific figures on request. The magazine will be published four times a year. The initial print run is 20,000 copies. Topics in the first issue include Napoleon, the history of motherly love, the Buchenwald concentration camp and - in keeping with the anniversary year - the Battle of Marignano. A debate on this topic is published between historian André Holenstein and BAZ editor-in-chief Markus Somm, who was briefly under discussion as NZZ editor-in-chief.
Peer Teuwsen, Head of New Journalistic Products at NZZ, is responsible for publishing the magazine. With NZZ Geschichte, Teuwsen wants to "combine the virtue of narrative with the virtue of factual accuracy and explain where we come from - in order to understand who we are today". Teuwsen was deputy editor-in-chief of the magazine for five years; before moving to the NZZ, he built up the Swiss and Hamburg editions of Die Zeit. Teuwsen is supported by journalist, historian and author Martin Beglinger. The magazine was created by designer Tyler Brûlé. (pd/hae/SDA)
