Georg von Holtzbrinck Prize for Reto U. Schneider
Reto U. Schneider, an editor at NZZ Folio, was awarded the Georg von Holtzbrinck Prize for Science Journalism in Berlin.
He received the 5000 euro prize for his articles in NZZ-Folio: "Mars makes you immobile" on the effects of prolonged weightlessness on the human body, "The rescue of Angelina" on the genetic cause of breast and ovarian cancer and "Not Kevin"which deals with the question of the psychological effects of a name on its bearer and the environment. The jury justified its choice by saying that Schneider succeeds in presenting scientific topics to the reader in a humorous and linguistically powerful way using innovative formats. Schneider is also the author of the international bestseller "The Book of Crazy Experiments".
The Georg von Holtzbrinck Prize is considered the most important award for science journalism in the German-speaking world. After Herbert Cerutti in 1996, Reto Schneider is the second Swiss - and at the same time the second journalist from the NZZ - to be awarded the prize.
