Prix Média: Science journalists honored
Five science journalists are receiving this year’s Prix Média from the Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences. They were honored on Thursday for «their successful communication of scientific knowledge» during the Swiss Media Congress in Interlaken.
The prizewinners are Julie Zaugg and Clément Bürge (technical sciences), Catherine Riva (medicine), Mathias Plüss (humanities and social sciences) and Nik Walter (natural sciences), as the academies write in a press release. The total prize money amounts to 40,000 Swiss francs.
Julie Zaugg and Clément Bürge are honored for a two-part article on fracking in the weekly magazine L'Hebdo. Catherine Riva is honored for her two-part article on mammography screening on SEPT.info. Mathias Plüss receives the prize for the article "Thirteen popular misconceptions about intelligence" in the magazine. Nik Walter's award-winning article in the Sonntagszeitung is about a debate on animal experiments among researchers.
Journalists and researchers who present complex topics to a broad audience foster dialog between science and society, the academies write. The Prix Média honors this mediation work. (SDA)
