First industry agreement in the private radio sector
The union of non-commercial local radio stations Unikom and the Swiss Syndicate of Media Professionals SSM signed the first industry agreement in the private radio sector in German-speaking Switzerland on June 18, 2014 in Zurich.
The industry agreement will enter into force on July 1, 2014. The conclusion of this industry agreement is the result of respectful social partnership discussions and negotiations between representatives of Unikom, the SSM and the member radio stations at the beginning of this year, the contractual partners said in a statement. "Together, we have defined minimum standards for working conditions that we believe must not be undercut." At a time when working conditions in the media industry are tending to deteriorate, Unikom and the SSM are sending a signal to the entire industry, the statement continues. Fair working conditions are necessary and possible. "Not least, they have a decisive influence on the quality of journalistic work."
The SSM continues to advocate collective regulation of working conditions and collective employment contracts for all employees in the private radio and television station sector, the press release continues. The conclusion of the industry agreement with Unikom is a first milestone on this path.
