Five East Switzerland Media Awards presented

In the press photography category, the prize went to Urs Jaudas (St. Galler Tagblatt), in the daily text category to Stefan Hilzinger (Thurgauer Zeitung) and in the reportage/background category, Mathias Ninck (Das Magazin) received this year's media prize.The television jury awarded this year's prize to Reto Hanimann (TVO). In the radio report category, Sara Hauschild (Radio SRF) received the Eastern Switzerland Media Prize.

The Eastern Switzerland Media Prize has been awarded for the 14th time. A total of 169 entries were submitted, divided into five categories - television report, press photography, radio report, report/background and daily text. The festive award ceremony in the Pfalzkeller was opened with a welcome address from St. Gallen cantonal councillor Fredy Fässler.

The award decisions in the individual categories:

"From a boy's dream to reality" - TV feature category

The jury awarded this year's Eastern Switzerland Media Prize in the television feature category to Reto Hanimann for the report "Vom Bubentraum zur Realität", which was broadcast on TVO on December 29, 2013."The author manages the demanding dramaturgical arc that a 25-minute documentary requires because he knows how to develop the three stories individually, categorize them and ultimately weave them together in terms of content," said the jury in recognition of the award winner.

"Krasnodar - the repellent" - Press photography category

Urs Jaudas is awarded the Eastern Switzerland Media Prize by the press photography jury for his work "Krasnodar - die Abweisende". The pictures appeared in the St. Galler Tagblatt on November 28, 2013. "Although something of the much-vaunted melancholy of the Russian soul shines through in his pictures, they are completely free of sentimentality or cliché," the jury notes.

"War in the heart clinic" - Reportage/Background category

The jury awarded this year's Eastern Switzerland Media Prize in the Reportage/Background category to Mathias Ninck for his report "Krieg in der Herzklinik", which was published in the Tages Anzeiger magazine on November 16, 2013. The reportage jury justified its decision as follows: "The author's linguistic care is impressive. He succeeded in organizing the wealth of details in a comprehensible way and creating an arc of suspense. The article is gripping and serves to establish the truth".

The Tagestext jury awards this year's Eastern Switzerland Media Prize to Stefan Hilzinger for his article "Ein Reichtumszeugnis", which was published in the Thurgauer Zeitung on July 16, 2013."A text written on the spur of the moment that neither seeks accolades nor makes a grand gesture. This was one of the reasons why the jury chose it," said the jury, praising the entry.

"Sweat dogs: bloodstains and deep insights into hunters' souls" - Radio feature category

The radio jury awards this year's Eastern Switzerland Media Prize to Sara Hauschild for her radio report "Schweisshunde: Von Blutspuren und tiefen Einblicken in Jägerseelen", broadcast in September 2013 on Regionaljournal Graubünden and Rendez-vous am Mittag on Radio SRF 1.
"The outstanding rhythm of sounds, original voices and author's text, combined with the unbiased sensitivity in approaching the polarizing topic of hunting, makes this contribution stand out in particular," said the jury, explaining its decision.
