Last but not least: ...and ask your doctor or pharmacist
Bad news for text message junkies: excessive typing of text messages on a cell phone could lead to orthopedic problems in the long term. This is what US researchers have discovered.
Excessive texting poses the same dangers as constant computer work and also leads to neck and shoulder pain, according to the scientists. The cause is said to be the body position when writing text messages - especially the immobility of the shoulders and back as well as the fast-moving fingers. However, the problem is not yet known in orthopaedic and surgical practice. No cases of young people suffering from health problems as a result of texting are known to date, says a doctor in an interview with Pressetext. In the days of mechanical typewriters, all secretaries had hand problems, and even today there is the mouse hand. But the pressure exerted on the cell phone keyboard is much less...so there is no acute danger. However, shaking your shoulders a little, moving your back a little and moving your fingers a little more slowly certainly won't do any harm.
