New publisher launches magazine for grandparents
On August 29, 2014, «Grosseltern—The Swiss Magazine About Life with Grandchildren» will be published for the first time. The magazine is published ten times a year and has a circulation of 20,000 copies.
The initiator is Dominik Achermann, who founded the publishing house 3G Media based in Baden. He welcomes the fact that the position of grandparents in today's families is becoming increasingly important again. "The topic of generations is associated with a very high level of positive emotion, which we want to reinforce with our magazine," says Achermann.
Grandparents in Switzerland devote 99.6 million hours a year to looking after their grandchildren, which corresponds to an economic power of around three billion Swiss francs. The relationship between grandchildren and their grandparents is of great importance to both parties, especially as they now live together for at least 20 to 25 years. Grandparents are not old hat. "On the contrary," says Achermann, "grandparents who engage with their grandchildren feel happier, younger and more open." Grandparents will provide information with well-founded articles from the fields of education, sociology and psychology as well as entertainment with reports, puzzles and columns. There is also an advice section on health, finance, technology, nutrition and excursions.
Georg Gindely (formerly Tages-Anzeiger) and Melanie Borter (formerly AZ-Medien) are responsible for the editorial work. Moritz Ulrich (owner of Small Stories) is responsible for the layout and Michaela Schröder (former publishing director of Women in Business) is supporting the magazine in marketing and sales during the start-up phase. Achermann is the former managing director of P.A. Media, the publisher of Women in Business and Home Electronics magazines, among others. "We have already received a lot of encouragement for our project and have entered into initial partnerships in both the advertising and reader markets," reports Achermann. Pascale Bruderer-Wyss, member of the Council of States, François Höpflinger and other personalities on the editorial advisory board support the magazine Grosseltern.
