Le Matin: Grégoire Nappey becomes Editor-in-Chief

Grégoire Nappey has been appointed editor-in-chief of Le Matin, succeeding Sandra Jean. The current editor-in-chief of Newsnet will take up his new position on June 1, 2014.

Grégoire Nappey will become the new editor-in-chief of Le Matin on June 1, 2014. As a journalist, he has extensive experience in the local and regional press in French-speaking Switzerland as well as proven skills in the multimedia sector. The current editor-in-chief of Newsnet Romandie will ensure continuity at the helm of the daily newspaper Le Matin, strengthen its character as a tabloid newspaper in French-speaking Switzerland and further develop its digital strategy. With a daily readership of 291,000 (Mach Basic 2014-1), Le Matin is the most widely read newsstand newspaper in French-speaking Switzerland and, with over 475,000 users per month (Net-Metrix Profile 2013-2), one of the main players in the digital media sector in French-speaking Switzerland.

40-year-old Grégoire Nappey graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Lausanne with a degree in journalism. He began his journalistic career in 2000 at La Presse Riviera Chablais, where he was responsible for the Vevey editorial office. He then moved to 24 heures as political editor. In 2006, he became deputy editor-in-chief of 20 minutes before returning to 24 heures after three years as deputy editor-in-chief with responsibility for multimedia. Since 2011, Grégoire Nappey has been editor-in-chief of Newsnet in Lausanne. The central editorial team provides the news platforms of Le Matin, 24 heures and Tribune de Genève with news around the clock, seven days a week.

As Editor-in-Chief of Le Matin, Grégoire Nappey will be supported by the existing extended editorial team. Stéphane Berney, who joined the Le Matin editorial team in 2006 after two years at Le Matin Dimanche, has been appointed deputy editor-in-chief.
Grégoire Nappey will remain responsible for the Newsnet editorial team until May 31, 2014 to ensure a smooth transition. The position of Editor-in-Chief of Newsnet will be filled following an internal and external advertisement.
