Mediakraft and British Pathé bring historical videos to YouTube
Mediakraft Networks and British Pathé are making one of the world's largest historical video archives available on YouTube. Mediakraft is currently publishing approximately 85,000 historical videos from the British Pathé archive on YouTube.
Students, pupils, teachers, journalists and anyone interested in modern contemporary history can not only view around 3,500 hours of high-quality moving images, but also share them and embed them on other websites. In addition, Mediakraft will work with British Pathé to develop new content and programs that draw on British Pathé's vast archive. Mediakraft made the announcement in a press release on Tuesday.
Together, Mediakraft Networks and British Pathé are putting almost the entire British Pathé archive on YouTube. The archive includes rare footage of both world wars, the Titanic, boxing legend Muhammed Ali and the "Miracle of Bern". The videos also paint a vivid picture of times long past, pioneering technical inventions and everyday life between 1910 and 1976. British Pathé is working with the German online video network Mediakraft Networks to manage this collection on YouTube.
With its experience and expertise in distributing and processing video content on YouTube, Mediakraft will make British Pathé's content accessible to a global audience, says Spartacus Olsson, CEO of Mediakraft Networks. With new, additional programs, Mediakraft and British Pathé will place the videos in a contemporary context that corresponds to the information habits of a modern audience: Roger Felber, CEO of British Pathé: "Our company has always been committed to informing people with videos. But times are changing. That's why we are looking for new ways to distribute our content. With YouTube as the largest video platform and Mediakraft as our professional partner, we have the best possible conditions to preserve our archive and our legacy as pioneers of the moving image age for future generations."
