Newsnet launches multimedia special for Sochi

Newsnet, consisting of the news portals of Basler Zeitung, BZ Berner Zeitung, Der Bund, Tages-Anzeiger and the French-language titles 24 Heures, Le Matin and Tribune de Genève, is presenting a multimedia special on the 2014 Winter Olympics.

The Olympic Games are a major challenge for media coverage. Newsnet not only provides comprehensive and live coverage, but also multimedia. In addition to video formats, photo blogs and live tickers, there are interactive infographics about the Olympic region, individual disciplines and the athletes.

More know-how thanks to infographics

The multimedia infographics provide readers with additional, up-to-date information about the Olympic Games and thus ensure a better understanding of the individual disciplines. For example, the Infographic "How curling works" the most important moves and components of the sport with an animated presentation. In the infographic about figure skating, Swiss figure skater Myriam Leuenberger from the Zurich-Oerlikon Ice Sports Club demonstrates the most important jumps in videos.

Rittberger also on the smartphone

"Thanks to our Multimedia special users receive useful analyses and background information in addition to the latest reporting, thus providing clear added value," says Samuel Reber, Head of News and Project Manager at tagesanzeiger.ch. "Who knows what a "Promote" is or how a Rittberger really works? You can find out with us. Even on your smartphone, by the way."

According to the press release, further interactive infographics will be produced and published in the coming days. Among other things, those interested in technology will learn how a bobsleigh is constructed. And the infographic about the ski jump shows which factors determine a successful jump. Interactive multimedia graphics are to be used more frequently on Newsnet in future, alongside long-form stories.
