Le Temps: Vaud and Geneva show solidarity
After Tamedia and Ringier put Le Temps up for sale, the governments of the cantons of Vaud and Geneva are now reacting. Geneva wants to ask the publishers for a meeting. Vaud announced that it would follow the dossier with particular attention.
"We have been informed by letter from the publishers," Vaudois State Councilor Pascal Broulis said Monday. He stressed the importance of the newspaper, which covers not only the Lake Geneva basin but all of western Switzerland. Le Temps also plays an important role nationally and internationally, Broulis said. The newspaper is of very high quality. Broulis let it be known that he is critical of the method of selling to the highest bidder.
The publishing houses Ringier and Tamedia each own 46.2 percent of Le Temps. At the beginning of last week, they announced that they wanted to sell the newspaper (Werbewoche.ch reported). In the meantime, the western Swiss business journal Agefi and Jean-Claude Biver, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the watch brand Hublot, showed interest (Werbewoche.ch reported). (SDA)
