Last but not least: What the internet society is looking for on the net
Yahoo has released its list of the top search terms for 2009. It clearly shows that the search engine’s users haven’t become any more creative over the past two years. The most searched-for word is—and remains—«weather.».
Directly behind "weather" comes the term "route planner" in second place, which incidentally was in the same position last year. Other top hits include eroticism, body mass index and lottery. Are these the topics that people searching on the Internet are most interested in? In addition to the names of various stars and sportspeople, keywords from the news sector can also be found. Unsurprisingly, "swine flu" was the most frequently typed search term in 2009. There remains a ray of hope: The search term "Wikipedia" improved by four places compared to 2008 and landed in third place this time.
